APRIL SHELDON DESIGN
April Sheldon’s career has taken her from the woodsy coastal enclave of Big Sur
to the decked out penthouse of a San Francisco high-rise, and from an old stone
ivy-clad manor house in upstate New York to an award-winning showroom for
Oprah Winfrey’s Oxygen Network. Gulfstream jets, reclaimed auto shop…the one
constant amongst her projects is an ability to listen to her clients, to give them more
than they ask for, and to embed beautiful surprises in the finished space.
Before April embarks on a single sketch, she listens to her clients talk about how
they live, and observes the things that make them both happy and comfortable. Her
knowledge and love of architecture inform a respect for a home’s structural bones,
which are taken into account when helping her clients express their personal styles.
"Interior design is not about walking through showrooms picking out pretty things,"
says April. “To be successful, you must be able to balance all the details—small
and large—with structural realities, personal taste, and actual budgets. And at the
end of the day, it’s the communication between client, designer, architect, and
contractor that can make a
project soar.”
April has the education, training, and experience to take a project from full concept
to installation, including interior architecture, custom furniture design, and art
consultation. She keeps her eye fresh by taking a variety of different commissions
and travelling abroad, from Italy to India.
Although word-of-mouth has kept April busy for many years, her work has not gone
unnoticed by a panoply of shelter publications, including House Beautiful, InStyle,
Elle Decor, the New York Times, and on House Beautiful Television.
